Testing data shows hybrid cases performing reliably well at drops up to 4–5 feet on most surfaces. Corner protection varies significantly by model — this is where build quality differences between brands become most apparent. "Clear" Cases
Transparent cases have exploded in popularity because they let your phone's design show through. Protection-wise, they vary enormously depending on construction. Without specifically reinforced corners (visible as thicker, sometimes contrasting-color material), a case may protect the back and sides while letting the corner take full force — which then transmits directly to the screen assembly and internal components.
When evaluating any case, look specifically at corner construction. If the corners look the same thickness as the rest of the case, that's a red flag.

Forget the marketing. Answer these questions honestly:
Do you drop your phone more than once a month? Go rugged. The bulk is worth it.
Do you work in construction, outdoors, or in any physical environment? Go rugged, and consider waterproofing too.
Do you rarely drop your phone but want some insurance? A quality hybrid case in the $25–$40 range covers you well.
Do you prioritize aesthetics and accept the tradeoff? Slim or clear with reinforced corners — and maybe look into a good screen protector to compensate.
