"Frank Miller's Sin City (Recut, Extended, Unrated) (2005) Review"

    I first saw this movie in the theatre, and thought it was great, and knew I'd be getting it on DVD when it came out.  I'm glad I discovered before it was released on DVD that there would be a first edition with just the basic movie and hardly any extras, and then a few months later there would be the super 2 disc re-cut, extended, un-rated etc. etc. version.

 I won't give the whole entire storyline and such from the movie here, I'll just say the movie itself was one of my top 2 favorites of the year along with Batman Begins.  The movie itself got great reviews across the board, so this one is definitely considered a hit. 

What I'll tell you here is that the extras in this super packed DVD make it all the better. First off on disc 1, you get the theatrical release of the movie, and a few cool viewing options such as having the audience volume on as it was recorded at the movie's premier in Austin Texas.  You can choose from that or the usual commentaries and such. 

Disc 2 features an interesting way to view the movie.  You can view each of the 4 stories in the movie in full, as it was written in the comic and meant to be seen.  This version is where you'll see the extra 20 minutes that were cut out of the original theatrical release.  Another feature on the DVD is the ability to view the view the entire movie in green screen version, in under 10 minutes in fast speed.  This really gives a nice insight into what all went into this movie, especially when you see these bare scenes as they were shot before all the movie magic was added to make the magic happen. 

 

The extras just don't stop as we get to see a Quentin Tarantino in action as he directs a scene from the movie.  They even have Robert Rodriguez giving a special Sin City recipe from his cookbook, how much further can they go! 

 

This double disc version was definitely worth the wait.  It's packed with hours of Sin City greatness that will have you going back and re-watching the movie again and again.  If you are a fan of extras and the whole 9 yards in a great movie, definitely pick this DVD up!
